The Holywell Branch Line was a mile long 'London and North Western Railway' built single track branch railway line, that ran from Holywell Junction on the North Wales Coast Line in greenfield to Holywell Town, via one intermediate station, St Winefride's Halt.
On the 1st of May 1848 Holywell Junction station ( on the coast road greenfield ) opened as Holywell station, and until early in theTwentieth Century it was the nearest station to the town of Holywell. In 1912 the London and North Western Railway made the new branch line with a 1 in 27 gradient from Holywell Junction to Holywell Town. The line passed to British Railways (Western Region) in 1948. Although the line was well used it was closed to passengers in 1954 and to goods in 1957. Holywell Junction ( coast road greenfield ) closed to passengers in February 1966.
I have hidden a micro sized stick cache at the old bridge next to where the holywell station used to be, now called tower gardens, next to tesco.
