Prior to European settlement the Maoris had a village close to here called Whaitiripaku.
Evansdale is named after William Evans who was born in Wales. In the 1860s he purchased land in the North Blueskin area which was changed th Evansdale when the railway went through his property in the 1870s.
It was a flourishing township in its day complete with hotel, blacksmith, saleyards, post office and railway station.
Now like with so many of these small settlements country wide it has virtually turned into a ghost town
