Geocache Description:

Welcome to the North Vancouver Public Art Geocache experience! The Arts Office is dedicated to preserving and expanding the celebrated public art collections of both the City and the District of North Vancouver, and through this series of caches we are pleased to be able to showcase some wonderful examples of public art that can be found across the North Shore.

Nest: Douglas Senft, 2011
Nest makes reference to the osprey's home and symbolically represents all nesting creatures within the Maplewood Flats area, as well as the concept of home and place.

Inserted inside the top of the nest is a small stainless steel replica of one of the squatter's houses that existed on the Mud Flats until the early 1970's. This model connects the site and work with the recent historical past and creates another layer of meaning for the concept of home.

Specifications: Taking inspiration from the osprey's nest, this piece is fabricated from hundreds of lengths of stainless steel round bar stock, which represent the twigs and branches birds usually use when building their home. The sculpture rests atop a galvanized steel pole.

Please take the time to enjoy the art, take some photos, post your comments, and don't forget to tell me what you think of this piece or the cache.

Muggles can pass at any time so you might want to have a camera with you to blend in. This is a small container that hold only a log book so you will have to provide your own writing implement, and there is no room for any swag items. Sorry!

As always have a great Geocache time and I hope you have a chance to visit the other public art locations around the North Shore.
