Il legame della gente di questa valle con la pietra è antico come il mondo. Da sempre la usano per costruire le loro case, i loro spazi di vita, per decorare il proprio ambiente famigliare, addirittura per costruirsi utensili come le pentole e le ciotole in ollare. Sono di pietra le macine del grano, le fontane e i navassini per l'acqua, i forni e i camini in cui cuocere il cibo.
Da allora, tutti i monumenti più importanti, le mura, i castelli, le chiese importanti e i mille atri segni di devozione che punteggiano il paesaggio, sono di pietra.
Questa gente ha vissuto sulla pietra e con essa: ha imparato ad amarla e a lavorarla. Fare il "picapreia" è stato per secoli il mestiere più comune e diffuso della valle: da qui sono partiti alcuni degli artigiani più capaci per portare in giro per il mondo la loro cultura incisa con forza nella pietra.
La cache è nascosta in una esposizione all'aperto accessibile a tutti.
