The year was 1967. The big screen was ablaze with “The Dirty
Dozen”. It was really 3 movies in one. The first movie was
the humor of training. This was attached to “The Test”
with tape. Finally, “The Mission” was added to make a
full length feature film. This movie was MGM’s biggest money
maker of the year. This series of 12 caches remembers many of the
actors from the film.
Sergeant Bowren was played by Richard Jaeckel. He was an excellent
character actor working in films and TV from the 40's to the 90's.
My favorite scene from the movie is when he names the group the
dirty dozen. The lines are something like: Now if you . . you dirty
dozen will get get your tools, we can get back to work. . . . Very
good . . . you look just like real soldiers. The sarcasms is just
dripping off the screen. If you have to go from Mt. Pleasant to
Talco or vise versa, why not take the back road and pick up a few
smileys. All of the caches are along Greenhill Road. An Altoids tin
is what you seek. You will need to bring a pen to sign the log.
