Off Sunken Mine Rd in Putnam Valley. The view from the cache location is spectacular and you are likely to see some birds of prey... which is why we named this a Raptor Cache.
This cache was place by Cub Scout Pack 5, from White Plains... after a great weekend of camping at Durland Scout Reservation. The cache is not located on the reservation... so it is accessible to scouts and Geocachers alike. The cache was filled with a couple of goodies along with 2 trackable Geocoins, a log book and pencil. It is a waterproof Rubbermaid container.
The coordinates are of the cache itself (with ~20 ft accuracy). It is located off Sunken Mine Rd at one of the spectacular scenic overlooks. There are a lot of nice hiding places in the rocks so you might have to search a bit... but it's shouldn't be very hard. Be careful of the drop off at the overlook. The cache is not too close to the edge so don't worry about having to get too close to the edge.
The cache was named after Raptors because of the close up views you can get of different Birds of Prey. We spotted many Hawks and a few Falcons while hiding the cache... and they were close enough to hear the wings!
We hope you enjoy the hunt and views. Have fun and happy Geocaching!
