This is part of a series of caches on the Wainwright Dodds.
Like its neighbour High Hartsop Dodd across Caiston Glen, Middle Dodd is far more prominent from below than from its parent fell of Red Screes. 'In the book ‘A Dictionary of Lake District Place-Names’ Diana Whaley suggests that the name means 'The compact hill in the middle' This is based upon the fact that it lies roughly between Hartsop Dodd and High Hartsop Dodd. A Dodd is usually a steep compact rounded hill, although, as in this case, it can also be a spur of a larger hill
The cache is hidden about 25metres from the summit towards Red Screes. There is a long narrow pool of water to the west of the path. The cache is located in rocks just at the north end of this pool (which may be seasonal !). Please see the spoiler photo as I’ve no wish for you to DNF. As ever the cache is a tat free zone.
The cache is placed with the permission of Stephen Downson, National Trust Area Ranger for Ullswater
