My brother asked me to place this cache on his property. Geocachers have his permission to come through the gate provided the road is not too muddy or the snow not too deep. If the gate is closed please close it again when you leave.
Thomas Banks filed on the homestead in 1913. He built his house into the hill with the door facing the creek. Road consturction and erosion have cut away some of the hill, but the location of the front door is still quite evident. My son who is currently interested in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, imagines it to have looked like a "Hobbit House".
Thomas Banks son, Tom Jr., did most of the proving up on the homestead. According to "Treasured Memories - The Yellowlake History Book", He would stay out here hunting and fishing for most of his food. Once a week someone would bring out milk and bread. He learned to smoke "roll-your-owns" just to pass the time.
