Geocache Description:

Mornington Railway #8 New Mornington Station. A series of caches along the historic Mornington-Baxter branch line. Each of the traditional caches contain part of a set of coordinates for the final mystery cache in the series.

Fancy a trip a daytrip to the seaside? Why not take the train and visit sunny Mornington? This is a series of caches tracing the old railway line into Mornington, each with clues to locate a mystery final cache located near the end of the line.

The Mornington-Baxter branch line was a rural railway branching off from the Frankston to Stony Point railway line at Baxter. The line had a life of 92 years, opening in 1889 and closing in 1981. Mornington Railway Preservation Society was formed in 1984 and after restoring the K163 locomotive and extensive track restoration the line reopened as a tourist railway in 1998.

Please note that this railway in parts is a working railway. Real dangers exist in walking along the line, so the caches in this series are not hidden on the railway line itself. Though the orignal line ran all the way into Mornington the current tourist railway ends here at Yuilles Road. A short platform was constructed here in 2000 and extended in 2004 as this became the new Mornington Station.
On selected Sundays and special event days the tourist railway runs between Moorooduc Station and here.

THE CACHE is a small plastic container with a yellow lid. The GPS can jump around .. it is not too far from the grassy area under a scrappy tree

This series was created by Saulman1010, adopted by gruffpuppy in September 2013 and adopted in turn by Annoying Tarbit in September 2016.
