Geocache Description:

A bonus cache, linked to our Odyssian theme. Our first cache Mary's favourite Spot GC1WEN6 was hidden on Kefalonia, overlooking Polis Bay, Ithaca (home of
Odysseus)

The cache is not at the posted co-ordinates.

In order to find this cache you must first find both sets of co-ordinates.

These can be found by locating Epiritus, The Bow and the goddess Athena who will help you to travel in disguise.

Athena, will give you the Northings. Epiritus will tell you where to find her. The Westings for this cache are within The Bow

This bonus cache tells what happened when Odysseus finally returned to his homeland, Ithaca.

After many years Odysseus, in disguise as a tramp and using the name Eperitus, had arrived back home. The goddess Athena was again looking out for him.
He had gone first of all to Eumaeus the swinehead and had been reunited with his son Telemachus. He heard all about what had been happening whilst he had been away.

They go to his palace and discover the extent of what had been happening. One of the noblemen, Antinous, took offence at Epiritus entering the palace and refuses to give him food. He hurls a stool at him to send him on his way. Another, Eurymachus, also marks himself out for revenge when he too throws the stool at Epiritus.

Antinous, the leader of the group of noblemen, was loudly ranting on about how Penelope should make up her mind which of them to marry. Odysseus, he announced, must surely be dead after all this time.

Appearing to go along with what they were asking she began to knit or weave a burial shroud. Every night, however, she undid part of the shroud, until one day, a maid of hers betrayed this secret to the men.

On hearing this, they demanded that she finally choose someone.
Odysseus, in disguise even from his wife, watched as the men bullied his wife, drank from his wine cellar and took advantage of his family's hospitality.

Reluctantly, but unaware that her husband had returned, she announced that she would marry whoever could string Odysseus' bow and send an arrow through the sockets of 12 axe heads. Of course, as he is the hero of the tale, only Odysseus was capable of stringing the bow. Each of the men make the attempt and fail. Epiritus steps forward. They laugh at the prospect of a beggar succeeding where they had failed.

Odysseus was then revealed as himself and, with Telemachus and Eumaeus the swineherd, killed them all.

Antinous was the first to die...being the leader of the group. Eurymachus shortly afterwards. The end of this was not a pretty sight.

The only survivors were Medon, who had been polite to Penelope, and Phemius, a local singer who had been forced to help the men with their schemes.

A grisly end also came to the servant girls who had betrayed Odysseus. Read more of this final part of story of Odysseus online here
