Geocache Description:

This is a nice hike with multiple access options. A bit harder to get to, but worth the trip! Cache is a medium size ammo can. Beautiful multi-preserve in Roxbury, CT. Easy to moderate with hilly terrain. Plan at least an hour for this one.

Crow's Nest Cache is named for a nearby high point in the Erbacher Preserve. From this spot in the 1800's, one could see the Shepaug Railroad trains coming in either direction. The view is obscured in summer, but is probably pretty good when the leaves are down. The Erbacher Preserve was part of one of the largest dairy farms in the state, and was a gift to the Roxbury Land Trust (RLT) in 1984. A map is downloadable at the RLT Website, Map #20 (recommended). The Erbacher Preserve can be entered via the Orzech Preserve (Botsford Hill Road), the River Road Preserve (over the Volunteer's Bridge), or via the Minor's Bridge Road access (the closest access point). The best parking is available at the River Road Preserve lot. You can get pretty close to the cache and remain on a marked trail. Cache is filled with the usual small tradable items.
