Even more surprising later was seeing the end of the same flume
on the top of the narrow ridge, an unlikely spot to see another
sign of man, when we always hope to be in an area devoid of man's
presence.
In looking closely at the flume we noticed a literal sign of
man, a person's name scratched in the cement wall, followed by the
month, day and year. The date was much older than we expected.
At the posted coordinates, find the name and date. Then follow
these directions to determine the last three digits of the cache
latitude and longitude.
Latitude: Add the first two numbers of the year. Add the last
two numbers of the year. What is the difference between the two
sums? Add 40 to the difference. Subtract the total from the posted
latitude.
Longitude: How many letters are in the month? Add 40 to that
number. Subtract the total from the posted longitude.
