The RIDDLING GHOST OF ROSELAND PARK

Listen to me and I’ll tell you of a ghost that I met up with one foggy night in Roseland Park, if you dare. I’ll tell the tale of how if you can solve all his fiendish riddles you will be rewarded with the treasure that he alone protects.

If you’re ready, listen close.

The first thing you must do is pick a time to visit the cemetery, between the hours it is open would be wise. Enter the cemetery and proceed to the starting coord’s. You may park your vehicle there for you will not need it anymore while on this journey.

If you know which way north, south, east and west are you may not even need your GPS.

The starting coord’s will bring you to a stump. A distant remnant of what once stood there. This stump hold’s magical powers for once you step upon it you should be greeted with the Riddling Ghost of Roseland Park, if you choose the correct time to be there. I just happened to be there at the right time, so if he does not appear, I will tell you the riddles he told me so you may claim his treasure.

Step upon it, if you dare. When I stepped on it the sky turned dark and gray and fog filled the air. It was then the Riddling Ghost of Roseland Park appeared to me. He was dressed kind of strange, a long western coat covered his body and feet yet he wore a Civil War Colonel’s Union hat. His one gold tooth glistened when he smiled at me while his large gold hoop earring dangled from his ear. His hair was long and scraggly and the sword he wore on his side made a scraping sound on the pavement when he walked up to me. He then spoke to me saying “The name’s Cyrus McClintock. So I see’s you’ve come for the treasure I guard. Pray tell how’s did y’all know about it and how did thee know how to summon me self?” I told him of a wise old man I met up with at a geo-cachers meeting who told me the tale of the treasure here and I had to come out to see for myself if it was true.

So far I guess it is.

He then spoke to me again. “Ok then, if it’s the treasure y’all want you must answer me riddles. They is not that hard but y’all must pay attention to the details. If you can answer all me riddles, then the treasure may be yours. If in’s you’re ready, here’s the first.”

“Riddle one. Step up, step up upon the stump and see what you may see. For when you find the man that’s Gonne, the closer you will be. Look north, look south, look east and west, look everyway you can. Robert McGregor is who you seek, proceed there if you can.”

He then laughed out loud for I guess he thought I did not know what he meant, and to be honest at first I didn’t. How can I find someone who is gone? How can he be there and gone at the same time? Well I took a good look around as he instructed and low and behold I knew what I had to do. I found the man that’s Gonne and walked over to his gravesite. I had found Robert McGregor much to the dismay of Cyrus. Upon arriving there another ghost appeared dressed in a Scottish kilt and holding a bagpipe. His hair was as red as blood and he then spoke. “Name’s Robert, Robert McGregor Gonne, but you can call me Mick. You’ve made it this far so you might want to continue on.” He then started playing a tune on his bagpipe and Cyrus once again spoke.

“Riddle two. The tune you hear is in the air, it floats up to the sky. Follow the notes toward the Wind, which blows it by and by.”

I looked at Cyrus and said, “You’ve got to be joking, how can I see the wind?” He laughed again and slapped Robert on the back as he played even louder. I looked around again and I couldn’t believe what my eyes saw. I saw the Wind! It came from the southwest and that’s the way I headed.

I proceeded to the wind and when I got there the music had stopped and Robert was gone again. It got very very windy once I arrived there and Cyrus again spoke up. “So, y’all think ye’s smart, eh? Well see if y’all can answer me next riddle.”

“Riddle three. You need to find Elva Fay so north is north and south is south and surely east is east. But at this time of day it’s told, west will find you East.”

Ok, so how can west be east I wondered. I thought for a moment and then started west and East is what I found. Once I arrived there another ghost appeared out of the ground. She was one of the most beautiful women, I mean ghosts, I ever saw. She was dressed in a long Victorian dress and had long flowing blond hair. She took my hand and said in a gentle voice. “So you’ve made it this far, walk with me and you won’t have to answer the next one of Cyrus’ riddles. I will take you were you need to be but I can only take you to the next stop.” I nodded Ok and off we went. Cyrus was not happy but he followed us nonetheless. We proceeded north along the street until we seen a Swan on our right at the corner. She said “The swan will tell you when to go so leave you now I must. Good luck and may God bless you.” In an instant she disappeared just as quickly as she appeared. I heard Cyrus laughing as he approached me, his sword scrapping the pavement again. It made a god awful high pitched sound that almost hurt my ears. As he got nearer a beautiful white swan appeared out of the ground and was squawking while pointing to the northwest. Cyrus spoke again.

“Riddle four. The direction of her squawks will lead you on your way. Two military men from Clawson, is who you seek today.”

I listened to her squawks and which way her neck pointed and seen where I must head over too. I made my way northwest toward Clawson to find as I got nearer two military men appeared out of the ground. One was dressed as a Corporal from the Civil War while the other was dressed as a 1st Lieutenant, Air Corps from World War II. The Corporals name was Firman while the other was named Lloyd. Once I got nearer they were pointing to a plaque on the front of the gravestone that told the tale of these two. I read it and was quite impressed, while at the same time a tear came to my eye. Cyrus spoke up again. “This is no time for crying, lest ye be frightened. If y’all is ready to continue here your next riddle.”

“Riddle five. If you are from this area then surely you must know, that Clawson’s east and further east, Fraser will be found. But that’s reversed today you’ll see, for from Clawson where you stand right now, west is Fraser found.”

This one was easy. I knew I had to go west until I came upon Fraser which I found rather quickly. This did not make Cyrus any happier. He arrived and then spoke again. “Curse you, I did not think y’all would get this far. But y’all did and this is a making me mad. I refuse to tell you anymore except this. Head north and find the Noble Angel and it will tell you the way you seek. If you find the Noble Angel I will then assist you again with more riddles once you arrive where he sends you.”

I headed north and after some searching I was able to find the Noble Angel. He appeared and told me that I must head east till I come to a Lake. It is there Cyrus will be waiting for me. I headed east and found the Lake I was looking for, for when I arrived Cyrus appeared again. I could see he was not happy at all. He spoke again.

“Riddle six. Look north, look south, look east, look west, a Person you will seek. Once you find this “Mister” Person, sit down and have a seat.”

Ok, I think Cyrus was nipping the sauce when he was gone, since everyone in here is a person, how could I find the Mister he wanted? I thought about the riddle again and then it hit me, my aha moment. I headed east to have a seat with “Mister” Person. As I sat down to rest a young ghost boy appeared and said to me “Cyrus is not going to be happy you found me because I know where the treasure is and will tell you just because I know it upsets him and he’ll disappear once you know where it is.” It was then that Cryus appeared and looked to the boy and said, “Well, go on then, tell him where it is! He’s made it to the end and I can’t keep y’all from telling him anyway!” With that Cyrus disappeared and the boy ghost told me that if I got up and walked northwest, the treasure would be under the first tree I came to. A treasure under a tree? Was the boy pulling my leg I thought. I looked at him again and I knew he was telling the truth, so I got up, headed northwest and found the treasure under the first tree I came to. I turned around to see the boy ghost smiling as he disappeared back from where he came while waving goodbye to me.
