A geocache and alot of history, this cache is located at the remains of the Croesus stamping battery in the Lyell valley.
It should take around 45 minutes to walk into the battery, park your car at the Lyell DOC camping ground ( S41 47.816 / E172 02.937).
There are a number of options for a great day walk in this area, the main track follows Lyell creek to the Lyell saddle. Side trips to the sites of historical towns like Zalatown and Gibbstown are also a great option.
The track in the top section is under construction and is going to become part of the national cycleway programme, this track will link the Lyell to the Mokihinui valley. For more information go to: www.oldghostroad.org.nz.
The Cache is a 400ml Sistema, please do not climb down the hill to the battery.
Sattelite coverage is not too flash if using a etrex etc, so accuracy will be to within around 10m. Once you arrive at GZ all will be revealed.
