Geocache Description:

Sorry, this one is not accessed from the internal estate footpaths but from the estate distributor road Harpers Road. Beware of mugglers, road busy in rush-hour.

This is a 2.5 mile trail through a residential area rather than open countryside and fields. It is however a pleasant stroll as the estate was designed to segregate pedestrians from traffic. Due to public pressure additional footpaths have been added alongside the main distributor road (Harpers Road) but this can mainly be avoided by following the numbered trail starting from the Padgate Community Centre car park. N53 24.376, W002 33.376

Construction of the Longbarn estate was sponsored by Warrington New Town Development Corporation in 1972 with modern private residential areas built by Whelmar Homes at each end with new town rented housing around a local shop in the centre of the development. The owners of the private houses all acquired membership in the residents Longbarn Social Club which included facilities like an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and a bowling green. The club and membership fees were also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the amenity lands (play areas) and landscaped areas around the development. As costs soared resistance to the fees increased and the facility was eventually sold to become Smithy’s Pub then the Bay Leaf Indian restaurant and more recently a modern flat development called Harpers Green. The bowling green survives but the swimming pool and tennis courts have sadly gone.

Caches are named after the nearest street or prominent landmark. Unrestricted parking available in most streets. Containers are of mixed size and type with the larger ones initially containing items like small kinder egg type toys, coins and novelties. Here, you are looking for a small jewellery box in a clear plastic bag.
