Geocache Description:

Junction where the S&DJR line split to either Broadstone or Wimborne

Trailway means area is easily accessible. Best parking at church (trad cache St Hubert's) near junction of A31 and B3074 and walk trackbed from disused level crossing at N 50°47.043 W 2°2.143. Please don't hurt yourselves trying to climb down to the path from an overbridge.

The point at which the original line to Wimborne split from a later cut off to Broadstone. Trains used to have to reverse at Wimborne until the new line to Broadstone enabled direct services to Poole and Bournemouth via Broadstone junction.

The Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway – almost always referred to as "the S&D" – was an English railway line connecting Bath in north east Somerset and Bournemouth now in south east Dorset but then in Hampshire. It was never a high speed line: its winter business was carrying freight and local passenger traffic over the Mendips, but in the summer season the S&D came into its own, carrying a heavy service of Saturday holiday trains from northern towns to Bournemouth. It was often referred to as "the Slow and Dirty" or sometimes "the Slow and Doubtful".

It always commanded a considerable loyalty from railway enthusiasts, and when it closed in 1966 it was widely mourned.

Due to dense tree cover co-ordinates may be somewhat vague. Clip lock box.
