Geocache Description:

Part of our Wash Walk series of caches which is a circular walk of around 2.5 miles.

The cache is located on the Clenchwarton Parish Walk.

You are looking for a small cliplock tub in a camo bag which contains a log/pencil and a few swaps.

PLEASE stay on or very near footpaths, there is no need to cross fields as all the caches are reachable from a path.

Placed with kind permission from Eau Brink farms.

The observation tower, along with a gunhouse and close defence blockhouse, was built in 1940-41.
The site was was built for 2 x 6in guns but owing to the shallowness of the water, far out into the Wash, was found to be superfluous. Note the outer sea defence was built later so this would have been looking directly out over the marsh.
The guns were then moved to Northumberland.

The observation tower is of three floors with windows in two and slits in the third, where the observation deck is covered by canopy. All the floors have now disappeared. The single storey gunhouses and magazine are in good condition. The guns were mounted, without protection, on the roof. The close defence block house is of unusual shape with steps up on to its roof.
