K Trackers: We hated to do it, but we have to archive this cache. We did not get support from our reviewer or groundspeak to put a waypoint near the building. It seems like a waste to archive a cache over a few feet, but the new one has too much effort and funds invested to give up. Thanks to all of the cachers who submitted log entries and gave favorites points!

Geocache Description:

People familiar with the Lord of the Rings know that the fortress Hornburg guarding Helm's Deep becomes the refuge of some of the Rohirrim, under King Théoden, and that the Battle of the Hornburg was fought there. Helm's Deep was a large valley in the north-western Ered Nimrais (White Mountains). The valley was described as being blocked over its entire width by the natural series of hills called Helm's Dike and behind that lay the fortress of Aglarond or the Hornburg, at the entrance to the Glittering Caves.

The Helm's Deep cache is in proximity to a series of natural hills and a deep ravine. If you use your imagination, the Wolf Ranch Recreation center looks like the Hornburg! Enjoy the view of the terrain while you look for the cache.

It is recommended that you start and park your vehicle at the Wolf Ranch Recreation Center. The location is N 38 57.605 W 104 42.740.

There is a fence that marks the edge of private property and blocks access to the more steeper cliffs. You do not need to climb any fences.
