Geocache Description:

Small Lock n Lock.

Wrens are small songbirds in the family Troglodytidae. Wrens are medium-small to very small birds

Most wrens are small and rather secretive birds, except for their loud and often complex songs. Wrens have short barred wings and they often hold their tails upright. Wrens are primarily insectivorous, eating insects, spiders and other small arthropods.

There are 2 species of wrens commonly found at Oak Hammock Marsh, the Marsh Wren (Cistothorus palustris) and the Sedge wren (Cistothorus platensis) .

The Marsh Wren is sometimes called Long-billed Marsh Wren to distinguish it from the Sedge Wren, also known as Short-billed Marsh Wren.

The favourite habitat of both species are wet meadows and marsh edges found in eastern North America and central Canada. The male wren of both species often builds several unused nests in their territory and will often puncture the eggs of other birds nesting nearby.

You can hear wrens and perhaps catch a glimpse of these elusive birds at this location.
