Geocache Description:

A cache situated on a public footpath running from Titchfield Lane into Whiteley Woods, within private woodland. The woodland is a SSSI site (Site of Special Scientific Interest), so no ‘right to roam’ is allowed in this area.

The nearest access to join the public footpath which runs through Tapnage Woods is on Titchfield Lane at N 50 53’.077 W 001 13’.005, where there is parking for 3 or 4 cars. The other way is to come into Whiteley Woods from the numerous entry points and follow the various footpaths.

The footpath can get very wet and muddy in the winter and after rain so please ensure good footwear, a bit difficult for buggies in the winter. It is about 1 mile walk from Titchfield Lane to the cache.

From Titchfield Lane the footpath runs through HCC forest and then enters Leachpond Copse. Leachpond Copse is privately owned by us(The55ers), and is a ‘SSSI’ site, that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. These woods are Ancient Woodland with oak trees and coppice enclosures dating back at least to 1400’s. There is no ‘Right to Roam’ in the woods so the cache is located beside the footpath.

Cache is placed with the permission of the owners of the woodland.

In additional to being Ancient Woodland, the SSSI rating has also been given for a number of other reasons; the woods is the only UK home to the Brown Buff Moth, which is a small moth the size of your thumbnail; - you may see them – if lucky . There are Great Crested Newts, Dormice and even Black Adders, although very unlikely that you will see them.

The cache is a clip lock container with tape to aid concealment, it is located low down by the stream, so be sure not to get wet feet!! Can be easily linked to a number of other caches located nearby in Whiteley woods. We hope you enjoy the cashe
