The cache was a medium sized ammo box but is now a more standard plastic container. The hide is in Baggeridge Country Park accessible with a buggy except for one narrow bridge & the last 30 meters or so.
31st May 2005 was a momentous day - smethwickgg102 found their first geocache and it was this one. When the original cache was archived, we reinstated a new version of a popular and family friendly cache. At the moment (because we replaced it at short notice), it doesn't have an animal theme as outlined in the original text below:
As we have been on our geocaching travels, we have noticed a sad occurrence.... As other teams go on their travels, unwanted animals are sadly dumped in caches and as new animals are found, old favourites at home are left in drawers and cupboards to be sadly neglected for years. That is why we have today inaugurated Animal Rescue at Baggeridge Country Park - parking cost £2.40 all day.
In the cache you will find all kinds of animal related goodies. Please can cachers maintain the animal theme and give an animal a good home if you can. This cache is also designed for you to leave unwanted animals from your home. Give an animal a home and leave your animals to find a better home. Anything else animal related is also welcome.
Travel Bugs and trackables are also able to take full advantage of Animal Rescue's hospitality before moving on.
Unfortunately, when the cache was muggled in May 2017, any trackables went missing (along with the original container although we were a bit surprised about how someone smuggled it out of the park unless they had another bag to carry it in). The cache is hidden somewhere inside the Country Park..it can be a little muddy on rainy days. Please carefully replace the camouflage carefully as this can be a high volume muggle area.
Please feel free to reinstate the animal theme if you are able to.
