The Maurice River has a rich cultural history that began
thousands of years before European settlers. Native Americans used the resources of this river for food and materials. The river’s name is believed to be derived from the Prince Maurice, a 17th century Dutch ship that sunk in its waters.
The now nationally recognized Wild and Scenic Maurice River is a clean, natural environment which supports a great and wonderful variety of plant and animal life.
