Geocache Description:


Oksamyrå er ein liten avstikker frå Prestavegen mellom Vatnamot og Ogna.

Den første husmannsplassen i Oksamyrå er svært gammal. Den låg på vestsida av myra, ikkje langt frå den gamle ridevegen til Ogna. Plassen låg i fellesmarka til fleire av bruka på Vatnamot. Dei hadde lov til å ha to kyr og seks sauer, og til å skjera så mykje torv dei trong til brensel, men ikkje for salg.
Marie Nilsdatter (1882-1972), eller Maria som ho vart kalla, var den siste husmannen i Oksamyrå og i heile Vatnamotområdet. Folk i området hugsar framleis denne spesielle dama som budde i Oksamyrå, og historiane om henne er mange og fargerike.

Maria var viljesterk og spesiell, hadde lese mykje og gjort seg opp meiningar om mangt. Ho var fritenkjar, ho var kommunist, og ho var avhengig av snus.
Maria hadde sauer. Folk som arbeidde på jernbanen samla fór for henne når dei slo langs skinnegangen. Når Maria skulle til Sirevåg og handla, fekk ho sitja på med dressinen. Ho sette pris på ein dram, og snus måtte ho ha.
Ein gong hadde ho gått lens for snus, og jamra fælt for naboen. Han skjøna at det stod om livet, heiv seg på mopeden og fekk tak i snus før butikken i Sirevåg stengde for helga.
Maria budde i Oksamyrå fram til omlag 1970

I Oksamyrå kan vi framleis sjå hustuftene på staden der Maria budde.
The first cottage in Oksamyrå is very old. It was located on the west side of the marsh, not far from the old trail to Ogna. The croft was under the farms at Vatnamot. They were allowed to have two cows and six sheep, and to cut as much turf as they needed for fuel, but not for sale. Marie Nilsdatter (1882-1972) was the last crofter in Oksamyrå and throughout the Vatnamot-area.
Marie was strong-willed and special, had read a lot and strong opinions about many things. She was a "free-thinker", she was a communist, and she was dependent on chewing tobacco (snuff).
Once she had gone bilge for snuff, and complained strongly to her neighbor . He understood that this was a question of life and death, threw himself on his moped and got hold of snuff before the shop Sirevåg closed for the weekend.
Marie lived in Oksamyrå until about 1970
In Oksamyrå we can still see the ruins at the place where Marie lived.

Korleis koma dit?
Anbefalt parkering: ved Holmane gamle skulehus Følg grusveg/sti merka med blått over Hundamyra på austsida av Fv.44 til gangbru over jernbanen. Vidare frå jernbanekryssinga er det ein svakt synleg sti, området er litt ulendt og overgrodd.

Du kan og gå innover frå Sørskog. Om du vel denne vegen inn må du passa på å parkera slik at du ikkje er til hinder for anna trafikk.

How to get there:
Recommended parking: at Holmane old schoolhouse. Follow the gravel road / trail with blue markings across Hundamyra east of Fv.44 to footbridge over the railway. Further, from the railroad crossing, there is a faintly visible path. Parts of the path is a bit rough and overgrown. Here you can find waypoints for parking and trail
