This is a puzzle multi-cache and part of a series located around my home town of Halstead Essex – all of which have a historical theme. PLEASE NOTE the co-ordinates are location for the first clue which X can be calculated (see formula below)- to complete the co-ordinates for the final location.
The first clue is located on Halstead Market Hill and is dedicated to a very unusual sale at the market in 1777.
According to Dorreen Potts' book 'Look back at Halstead' – available from Halstead museum (located in Townford mill complex (straddles the river Colne).
A master Butcher sold his wife to a wealthy Farmer for the sum of 3 guineas and a good supper – the woman agreed to the bargain and the Farmer immediately took her home well pleased with his purchase !!
Now I know that modern supermarkets are marvelous things – but I have never seen a wife for sale – even at the well stocked Supermarkets in the High Street !!!
The final cache's original contents – in line with the cache name's – consists of plastic toy pigs and plastic (cake)wedding rings to swop !
The final cache - small clip lock box - is located at
N 51° 56.X69'
E 000° Y8.112'
The clues to be found on the 'object' at the first co-ordinates are :-
Value of X clue :- 'RSL Tel (026X)'
Value of Y clue :- S0Y
Handy hint – to help find the final Cache a little more easily, if you are not familiar with the Town, – use the footpath which starts at the following location :-
N 51° 56.XY5'
E 000° Y8.277'
