Cache is located along the trail past Lawrence Cemetery in the Clemson Experimental Forest. Trail is wide, packed and short (about 0.1 miles). On this trail, stop and visit Lawrence Cemetery, a unique and hidden piece of local history. Parking at N 34 44.214' W 82 52.050' You are looking for a medium sized ammo box.
The Lawrence Cemetery contains a few grave markers as well as a memorial for Lt. Lawrence, a Revolutionary War veteran. The cache and cemetery are on a short and beautiful trail. If you continue on the trail past the cemetery, you will loop along the shore of Lake Hartwell and some intense rope swings before returning to the dirt road. To reach the trailhead enter the Clemson Experimental Forest one of two ways. West entrance: Take Old Clemson Highway near Seneca, SC. Turn right (north) at Old Seneca Highway. Continue over Lake Hartwell at Lawrence Bridge. 0.4 miles after crossing bridge take dirt road entrance to right (east). Dirt road forks; stay right. Parking area is small, 0.25 miles after fork. Road is chained off, park on side of road and start walking! East Entrance: From 6 Mile highway (133) just north of Daniel High School turn left (west) onto Old 6 Mile Road, and take the dirt road Experimental Forest entrance to the immediate right. Follow this road about 4 miles to fork in road; turn left (south). Continue on 0.25 miles to small parking area on right side. Note* You must cross a small creek entering from the east side. The creek bed is graveled and easily crossed with a 2-wheel drive car. If there has been a lot of rain the creek may be swollen, so use caution and your judgement. The dirt road is shorter if you use the west entrance and there are no creek crossings. The Experimental Forest gates are shut from November to March 15th every year. You can still use the Experimental forest but are limited to hiking, biking and horseback riding. To reach the cache when the entrances are locked use the West Entrance. Park at the gate and walk in following the west entrance direction. Total hike will be about 0.35 miles one way, so still pretty short!
