Since 1960 and definatley during my childhood this Grade 1-listed building was a boarding school known as Atherley School. Around 1997, the school and buildings were sold for a reported 6 million pounds.

Atherley School in Southampton and Embley Park School Romsey joined forces and moved to the site around this time. The main building was used as a mixed junior school with new buildings added alongside the old, to create a girl’s only secondary school.

Around 2007, the site was sold to developers who promptly changed the use of the site to what is now known as Grove Place Retirement Village. The newer Secondary School building was doubled in size and converted to retirement flats, then a second building which mirrored the first was built, it also houses retirement flats. The main house, which can be seen from this cache, houses the functional parts of the development such as a snooker room, lounge area, fitness suite, restaurant and bar area.
