Things you might not know about
Silicon:
- When mixed with oxygen it forms silica which
is usually found as sand. Only 2 elements make up almost three
quarters of the Earth's crust!
- It is used to make glass and steel.
- Because silicon is an important element in
semiconductors and high-technology devices, Silicon Valley in
California is named after this element since it is the base for a
number of technology related industries.
