The Great Swamp Oak tree is nestled within 8-½ miles of trails
and 425 acres of The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental
Education Center, located at Lord Stirling Park, Basking Ridge
NJ.
The Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River has a variety of
habitats, including floodplains, swamps, rivers, intermittent
streams, marshes, meadows, natural and man-made ponds, fields, and
forests. This area provides homes for many diverse plant and animal
populations in this environmentally sensitive park.
The area was also once home to Paleo-Indian groups, the Lenapes,
and even a Major General of the Continental Army, Lord
Stirling.
