I think everyone has heard of that imaginary line in the Atlantic Ocean that goes from Miami to Puerto Rico to Bermuda known as the Bermuda Triangle.
Numerous aircraft and marine vessels have disappeared under mysterious circumstances in this area. Some have speculated that these disappearances were caused by such things as paranormal activity and extraterrestrial abductions.
The Bermuda Maritime Operations statistics reports that 412 vessels, including passenger ships and yachts arrived on the island in 2009. There are also 9 airlines arriving in Bermuda daily. Some airlines come twice daily from different airports. Although there have been many that have disappeared, when one takes into consideration the numbers of vessels that travel to the Island and aircraft who daily fly to Bermuda, the percentage of disappearances is low.
Instead of speculating on mysterious circumstances, it just may be human error, inaccuracy of reporting or even embellishment of events. Then, there is the Gulf Stream. It is powerful, warm and its current is swift. It’s what keeps Bermuda tropical and warm when the east coast of America is having snow and very cold temperatures. The warm waters of the Gulf Stream meeting the cold Atlantic waters may cause turbulences and be the cause of some disappearances as well.
Our family is fully aware of the loss of precious lives in this Triangle. We know that a wonderful husband and father was not there to see his children grow to adulthood, and I will never again see a school friend who left Bermuda on an ocean voyage to travel around the world.
This cache is located near Tobacco Bay in St. George’s. It is a popular beach for swimming and hopefully geo-tourists will be able to find this cache without too much difficulty. It’s a long walk up and downhill to the beach but worth it. Cruise ship visitors can get a ferry boat at Dockyard directly to St. George’s or take the #7 or #8 bus to the main terminal at Hamilton and transfer to the St. George’s bus.
