Geocache Description:

St Peter & St Paul
Boughton Under Blean

You're looking for a 35mm film cannister.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not attempt to access this cache from the church grounds by climbing over the wall! You need to find the nearby footpath.

I've often seen this church from the train on my way home from work and thought how lovely it looks up on its little hill. Having visited other church micros, I thought it would make a perfect addition to the series. Being only a few minutes from the end of the M2, it's a perfect spot for a picnic and even has a picnic table in the church grounds!

The parish church of St Peter and St Paul is a beautiful Grade Listed 13th century church overlooking secluded farmland in the older village of South Street, close to the Boughton village it serves. The church is run as a combined benifice with Hernhill, with alternating services in both churches every Sunday.

Its greatest treasure is the fine monument, by Ephanius Evesham, to Sir Thomas Hawkins, who died in 1612. As well as featuring Sir Thomas himself, this also includes sculptures of his six sons, three of whom have entries in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. One was a Jesuit priest who (cheekily in the Protestant era, when his presence in England was illegal) is depicted raising his hand in blessing.

To access the cache you will have to walk down a relatively steep slope covered in some loose chalk stones and dirt. This slope is outside of the church grounds. There are a fair few nettles around and the area is full of old rabbit holes so be careful that you don't twist your ankle! Dogs are not allowed in the church grounds. Please do not climb over the wall as others have done in trying to find this cache, we don't want to upset the land owner. Thanks!

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
