Lagoon Park Walking Tour Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Father-of-five: This one has run it's course. Unfortunately, 80 hour work-weeks are truly preventing me from checking on it, and maintaining at I should. Time to open up this beautiful park for another couple of Caches!

Geocache Description:

Take this walking tour of Lagoon Park!

(Note: The QR code near Ground Zero is NOT part of the Cache.)

LAGOON PARK – THE JEWEL OF JORDAN!
Lagoon Park is the largest of Jordan’s city parks and is located in the heart of town. It contains several recreational features and opportunities for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors!

The biggest and most obvious of these features is the Mill Pond. The Mill Pond covers 17 acres and is 18 feet at its deepest. The lake was completely restored in 2008. It was dredged, rebuilt, improved, refilled and restocked with various spices of fish. Since the restoration project, it is not uncommon to see people swimming, fishing, canoeing, and sunning on the beach.

Adjacent to the Mill Pond, Sand Creek flows towards another unique feature of the park - Sand Creek Falls. While I have never tried it, I hear of kayakers who run Sand Creek, and fishermen are often seen wetting a line in the plunge pool.

Like any good municipal park, there is a playground, several picnic pavilions, numerous picnic tables, a gazebo, horseshoe stations, two sand volleyball courts, large open areas, a bathroom, and a warming house (for winter ice skaters).

At the north end of the park is a patriotic display. There is a flagpole ensemble, the historic cannon display (refurbished in 2011), and a bench dedicated to our home-town local hero, Spc. Joshua R. Anderson who was killed in action in Iraq January of 2008.

With so many recreational opportunities available, it only made sense that GeoCaching should be part of the plethora of choices.

Currently, there is one cache located at the south end of the park, (be sure to add that one to your list too). Lagoon Park has been home to several previous caches located at various places throughout the park (including one of my own) that have since been archived. I felt it was time for Jordan to have a "walking tour" multi cache, and after tossing a couple of different ideas around, I settled on this walking tour of Lagoon Park.

I hope you enjoy!

ABOUT THIS CACHE.
There are four stages to this Cache. Stages one and two may be a little more challenging.

NOTE:
STAGE ONE IS NOT LOCATED IN THE ROCKS!!! IT CAN BE RETRIEVED FROM THE PAVED PATH!!

The encrypted hint should help without giving it away completely.

UPDATE: Stage one playing piece is missing. Until I get the piece back in place, the coords you would FIND at stage one are... N 44° 39.785 W 093° 37.774. I will remove these coords once I get the playing piece back in place!

If you complete the whole series, you will have walked close to a mile and have seen most of what Lagoon Park has to offer! Be sure to watch out for muggles! Lots of 'em all around!!

This multi cache should prove to be family friendly. The container is suitable for a log book and small tradables, trinkets or travel bugs. FTF prize was a presidential $1 coin.

Make an “event” out of it. Plan a picnic, some swimming, fishing, playing, skating, and of course…

GEOCACHING!!

Congrats to Co-FTF'ers BPFinders and A-Body
