Prys the Pirate Traditional Cache
Southerntrekker: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs I am archiving it.
The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported. Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center.

Cerrigydrudion is on the junction of the A5 and B5105. To get to St Mary Magdalene’s Church take the B5105 towards Ruthin – the church is on the right-hand side as the road bears towards the left (coming from Betws y coed direction). You can park on the roadside near the church.
As with most churchyards, please take care when you walk around as the ground can be uneven. Also please try to walk around the graves rather than over them.
So why “Prys the Pirate”?
The gravestone of Thomas Prys (1564-1634) can be found in the side chapel of St Mary Magdalene’s Church. He was the son of Elis Prys, the notorious ‘Red Doctor’ of Plas Iolyn, who played a zestful part in the dissolution of the monasteries during the reign of Henry VIII.
Captain Thomas Prys saw military service in his youth, and returned from his missions at the time of the threat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. Once it was defeated he joined the many noblemen who became pirates on the Spanish Main – hence “Prys the Pirate”!
St Mary Magdalene’s Church holds many more tales and secrets, why not pop in if you have time? The Church welcomes visitors and is open daily between 10am & 5.30pm. Whilst looking around, please remember that they are places of worship and contemplation, and the heritage is much valued by the local communities.
The cache is a camouflaged nano container and it has a logbook, and pencil inside. Happy hunting!
Note: The co-ordinates were averaged out over several readings.
