This cache is located in: Clark Reservation State Park.
This cache has been placed under New York office of parks;
Permit No. CR-02-2011 with an expiration of 6-13-2013.
Your best choice
is to go through the park to get to the cache. This NY State Park was originally divided into tracts and offered as compensation to the soldiers of the Revolutionary War in 1792.
Glacier (aka Green) Lake (meromictic) was created during the Ice Age melt down, is the result of the largest flowing falls in North America at the time. You can go down to the lake using stairs set in place shortly after 1878. A very rugged & difficult trail allows you to hike around the basin of the lake. A Nature Center, (open in the summer months) has wonderful displays of the flora, fauna, birds, mammals, insects, and fossils in the Park. Many of the items are visible through the front window year round. The center offers guided tours in the summer.
This park provides medium to very difficult (mostly rocky) trails with many crevices that you will have to step over. The area is used year round for hiking. A walk around the perimeter of the park will be about 2 ¼ miles.
Trails will lead you close to the cache. A very detailed map is (usually) available at the entrance to the park.
The cache site is very rocky, strewn with boulders and crevices, left over while the glacial waters retreated 10,000 years ago. The Rock Cut Gorge just to the North of the park was cut out in just 6 hours when the
massive glacier lake known as the Onondaga Trough broke through during that period.
The cache site has signs placed by the park outlining strict guidelines for no trespassing just a short distance from the cache. There are also private property signs outlining their property. You do not need to go beyond any of those signs. The cache is a SS canteen.
Your GPS will need time to settle down because of the rocks and the rocky ridge near by.
While you are in the park, you might want to look for the other 5 caches as well as another one just outside the park.
