Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Enigma M4 Series. Make sure you take note of the clue inside so you can find the final cache, Enigma M4 Series: Final.

The Steckerverbindungen (plugboard) was a part of the setup of the Enigma machine that could be changed. The machine had a set of plugs for each letter in the alphabet that could be connected. This connection was like a substitution cipher before the letters hit the inner workings of the Enigma machine, adding to the complexity of cryptanalysis. Each letter could only be plugged to one other letter and the substitution worked both when the letter was being typed and before the letter was presented to the operator.
