Victoriabaai is a beautiful small beach close to George.
A nice spot to take the family and just spend some time on the beach.
Victoriabaai is also known from this song written by Lucas Maree, a well known Afrikaans singer.
Victoriabaai (with a very rough very direct english translation)
Kyk hoe sluit die son die hemel oop. (Look how the sun opens up the sky)
Kyk hoe wyk die nag voor die dag. (look how the night disappears before the day)
Kyk hoe word die see in goud gedoop. (look how the sea is bathed in gold)
Kyk hoe bloos die strand vol van hoop. (look how the beach blushes full of hope)
Gedagtes vat my soos 'n kolk wat draai. (thoughts take me like a turning vortex)
Deur die newels na Victoriabaai. (through the nebulae to Victoria bay )
Waar die branders in die skuim rondwaai. (where the waves blows around in foam)
Styg my hart tot waar die seemeeu draai. (my heart rises to where the seagull turns)
Mmm-mmm-mmmm
Mmm-mmm-mmmm
Mmm-mmm-mmmm
Aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai.
Aai, ek wens ek was nou daar. (I Wish I was there now)
Aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai.
Op my kliptroon by Victoriabaai. (on my "rock-throne" at Victoria Bay)
Daar kan ek nog soms my siel oopknoop. (there I can open up my soul)
Daar verdwyn die nag en word dit dag (there night disappears and becomes day )
Daar kan ek my kop van kommer stroop. (there I can strip my head from worries)
Op my rots, my troon, vind ek hoop. (on my rock, my throne, I find hope)
Aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai.
Aai, ek wens ek was nou daar. ( I wish I was there now)
Aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai, aai.
Op my kliptroon by Victoriabaai. (on my rock-throne at Victoria Bay)
this might not be a professional translation but I think the idea is brought over
This cache will give take you to a place with a view over the rocks that I think would be Lucas' Kliptroon.
New directions to cache
The walk to the first waypoint is very easy (about 150m flat road) from there duck trough the wooden arch and climb up the rocks.
Near the flagpole you will find a place to climb down from the rocks again.
Walk further west and climb up the second rocky outcrop. to waypoint 2
Once on top of the second set of rocks, follow the track up the hill to the cache location.
Please note that if the rocks are wet, this can be dangerous! and should rather be left for another day
In season this is also a prime spot for the avid whale watcher. So look out for some Southern Wright whales.
