Dry lakes NW of Moses Lake. Off of Rd. 10. Close to the middle of Nowhere, Man.
If you don't come, then.....you don't know what you're missin'.
Well, I parked at the Bureau of Reclamation parking site on Rd. 10 (cords posted below) and hiked 2.25 miles to place this cache. It's in the locale of two basically dry lakes: Artesian Lake and Black Lake.
Don't let the map fool you. You won't have to worry about water hiking to this cache even though the map makes it look like it's on an island.
This could also be a fun ride, very doable, on a mountain bike. Vehicle tracks can be followed almost all of the way to the cache. Could also be a fun full moon hike on a clear night.
Cachers can go to the parking area noted below to make the 2.25 mile one-way trip. To make the hike easier, enter the area through the hiking gate (not the white metal gate) and stay on the dirt road/path as long as possible.
This is on Bureau of Reclamation land open to the public. When I say "dry" lakes I mean -- dry.
This is a remote cache. Bring water. Take coordinates of where you park so that you can find your way back if you get turned around out there. Take a flashlight if it's near evening. Let someone know where you are going. Blah, blah.....
NOTE: Cache is a small ammo box on the NE side of the "island." Located behind a rock that's about the size of a counter-top fridge with some flat rocks covering it. Approaching the island, walk counter-clockwise around the grassy base until you're about 40 ft. from the cache, then straight to the cache at the bottom of a small cliff. Don't want anyone going all of the way out there and not finding it! Please replace as found.
This is a challenging hike so come prepared. Didn't see any, but snakes and ticks may be present. In May and June there are lots of wild flowers to enjoy. Birds all over the place, including some raptors.
Let's see now:
remote location
come prepared
mark parking coords
lakes are dry
Yep, that's about it.
From this spot, no one will say he/she.....doesn't have a point of view.
