This first cache is dedicated to Pele. The "Black Pearl" was born in Brazil and considered to be the greatest soccer player in the history of the game. He made his debut with the Brazilian national team at age 16 and won his first world cup at age 17. He scored over 1200 goals (1956-1974) and holds the world record for most hat tricks (92). He is the only player to have won 3 World Cups. So renowned was he, that in 1967, a 48 hour ceasefire was declared in Nigeria so that the Federal and Rebel troops could watch Pele play on a visit to the war-torn nation. Pele retired in 1972. Though he hung up his boots, he continued to do good for the world as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and a United Nations Ambassador, working to protect the environment and fighting to end corruption in Brazil. Throughout his life he was always concerned for underpriveleged youth.
