The coordinates lead you to a point on a ridge that points to the west. The view is spectacular. Before you make the final decent to the cache stop and look down the hill. You will see a classic geoche hiding spot. Visually finding it in this way will give you a buzzard like experience since buzzards find there meals visually, looking down at the ground as they soar aloft.
The view looking west shows at least 3 unique eco zones
1. Badlands. Makoshika is the tip of the true badlands which originate near Laramie, Wy and were originally formed during the mountain building period. This event changed the easterly flow of the Yellowstone River to a northerly flow into the Missouri River.
2. Riparian. The Yellowstone River Valley
3. Grassland. The rolling prairie of the Northern Great Plains.
The cache is an ammo can camoed to match rocks surrounding it. It contains a log and swag. The cache is part of the annual Cache in and Coin Out event held in conjunction with Buzzard Days, and is sponsored by the Badlands Geocaching Group and the Glendive Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.
Park at the picnic shelter, N47°04.863 W104°41.908. Hike from there. Trail can be very slick and muddy after a rain. Good shoes are a must. Prickly pear cactus is plentiful, also be alert for prairie rattlesnakes. I found treck poles helpful. A water bottle is a must in warm weather.
