Geocache Description:

A short detour that holds a 4 cache series and then brings you right back to the Highway. This series focuses on the 3 main industries of central California: vinyards,cattle, and agriculture. Nice short drive and great views.

The California wine industry is growing and changing a midst a global revolution in grape growing, wine production, wine marketing and consumer tastes. California accounted for roughly 90% of the value of U.S. wine production in 2006. The vineyard you are standing in is part of the largest single grape producing vineyard in the world at about 8,500 acres.

The "birdhouses" you see while touring the vineyards are actually habitat for owls. Maintaining the population of owls is an effective way to control harmful rodents such as the pocket gopher without using chemicals.
