Geocache Description:

Eclipse container with logbook only

This valley was tent city during the construction of the Waitaki Dam
This project triggered the model from which the Labour governments' national system of free health and hospital services began due largely to the efforts of the local GP, Dr Gervan McMillan and the local Presbyterian minister, Arnold Nordmeyer.
The Waitaki Dam was the last to be built using picks, shovels and wheelbarrows.
The workers were housed in large camps and conditions were harsh- they lived through cold winters and flooding in the six years it took to build the dam.
