Welcome to the Bellefonte Central Rail Trail Geocache Series. This 3-stage cache will have take you along the abandoned Bellefonte Central Railroad between Waddle and I-99/220, which has been converted into a rails-to-trails path for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
Downhill Slide
"State College itself received daily train service until 1959, when Penn State switched from rail to truck for receiving power plant coal (more than 30,000 tons annually). Trucks were then making inroads in all aspects of the rail freight business, and soon the BFC was sending its train to State College only once or twice weekly. The BFC discontinued service to State College altogether in 1974."

The cache should take you just over 2 miles to complete from State 1 to the Final, and for the most part the path is easy, level and well maintained, but some bushwacking might be necessary at each stage.
