On the rock climbing wall next to the locks. Note: You are not
required to "climb" the actual rock wall!
This cache is located on a rock climbing wall next to Kingston Mills Locks. These water locks were an integral part of the shipping routes for many years as ships would travelling up and down the Rideau Canal. The Rideau Canal is one of the Unesco World Heritage Sites. The locks are still operational and serve as the backdrop to a beautiful part of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. You can make an outing of this trip as there are a few caches around the locks. There are also great areas to for kids to play, have a picnic, and so on.
PLEASE REPLACE THE CACHE AND CAMOUFLAGE EXACTLY AS YOU FOUND THEM! Thanks :)
Congrats to johnnimo on FTF!
Of Interest: This is the site of the first mill built on the Rideau, the King’s Mill, built here at Cataraqui Falls in 1784. The site today features a lovely set of three locks, a turning basin, a detached upper lock and the Robert Anglin Visitor’s Centre. The main CN rail line crosses over the lower locks on a bridge originally built for the Grand Trunk Railroad in 1853 (originally a wooden bridge, the current steel bridge dates to 1929). One of the four blockhouses on the Rideau is located here. It’s open during the summer months, the inside outfitted as soldier’s barracks. The falls, first used to power mills, still generate power today, a small hydro-electric station was built here in 1913.
