As a part of "Canada's Economic Action Plan", a one mile long
section of highway outside of Nelson was upgraded and widened to
include a passing lane at a cost of $6,000,000. At the time, there
was a lot of objection to the project that was based largely around
the "why can't we spend that money on the hospital or something
else? We don't really need a new passing lane!"
Well, the real reason for the reconstruction can now be revealed: I
needed somewhere to place a cache that could pay some homage to
that most iconic of 1970's heroes: Steve Austin.
