Greenwich has long history of royal association. In 2012, to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, Greenwich is to be given the honour of becoming the fourth Royal Borough.
Greenwich has long been a popular destination with the royal family, who in times of yore, liked to escape the dirt and noise of London in favour of Greenwich Park, where they could partake in favourite pastimes of hunting deer and hawking. It was easy to travel from Westminster to Greenwich via the Thames. The riverside Tudor palace (Placentia) on the site of the Old Royal Naval College was one of the favourites of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
Later, King James I commissioned Queen’s House for his wife, Anne of Denmark. It was structurally completed sixteen years after her death, in 1635, when James's son Charles I gave Greenwich to his queen, Henrietta Maria. Although changes have been made to the external features of the building, much of the original architecture is evident from this time and some interior features also remain.

This cache celebrates Greenwich’s connection between the River Thames and royalty, signified here by sludge and blue blood. It is in the perfect spot to start exploring Greenwich’s royal connections (maybe with a tour of Queen’s House) and riverside history (not least with a pint at the Trafalgar Tavern). But in order to log it, you need to unlock the coordinates.
