Geocaching -- Family Fun (2011)
Hidden
:
Saturday, July 16, 2011
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is an opportunity to get outdoors and learn about the
sport/activity of geocaching. Folks in attendance will have the
opportunity to search for hidden containers by using global
positioning satellite system technology. Read more below . . .
What: An
introductory event on basic geocaching skills
Who: People of all ages and abilities who want to learn about
geocaching
Where: In Roche-A-Cri State Park (on Highway 13 just north of
Friendship and just south of Highway 21) at the shelter west of the
mound. Watch for signs.
When: Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. for about an hour or
so
This is an opportunity to Get Outdoors with the whole family to
learn a new skill or to improve on one you may be just starting to
learn. People who are camping in the park or who are from the area
(or not) are welcome to come see what geocaching is all about.
Bring along a GPS receiver if you have one. If you already have a
geocaching account and were thinking about finding any or all of
the 22 geocaches in Roche-A-Cri State Park (many placed for the
2010 WGA Picnic), this would be a great time to visit. Stop by
before or after those searches to pick up some pointers, to share
your skills with others, or to just say "hi". Maybe you have some
other geocaching topics you would like to discuss, if time and
group make-up allow. Once again, we are bribing people with the
lure of homemade cookies!
NOTE: The stairway to the top of the mound is closed until an
extensive repair/redo can be completed this summer/fall. It is
expected to be reopened for the 2012 season.
NOTE: If you are using an auto router to get to the park, use the
entrance coordinates (listed as a waypoint below) instead of the
event coordinates. When the shelter coordinates are used, because
they are for west of the mound, auto routers usually send people to
the back of the park where there is no access.
Because this
event is held in a state park, a parks admission fee is required
(hourly, daily, or yearly sticker). There is no cost for the
event.
This event is put on in conjunction with park personnel and nature
programs, including the "Get Outdoors" program, which aims to get
young people and families into the outdoors.
