Geocache Description:

The Green County Barn Quilts project started in 2008, and by the end of 2010 the 100th barn quilt was installed. Barn quilts are painted wooden squares (designed like one block of a real quilt pattern), generally 8 x 8 feet in size. Some are located on "working" barns, and others are displayed on "retired" barns. It's not as challenging as geocaching, but hunting for the barn quilt locations is a true adventure in experiencing the roads less traveled of the Green County countryside.

This barn was built in 1868. The original function was a dairy barn, and continued as a dairy barn until 2001. It now is used for hay storage. The building was constructed with hand hewn beams, sided with 12 inch boards. The original dimension of the barn was 34' x 64. Currently it is 34' x 80'. Originally the barn had cross alleys, and housed 40 milk cows and horses in the lower level. The upper level was a hay and grain mow. The Faessler family purchased this property at a Green County Sheriff's sale in 1941 by August Faessler. Today two of August and Ida's children and their family, own this farm. The family chose the "Star Shadow" pattern because it was popular in the era (1860-1890) that the barn was built.

Log / Container Replacement Policy:
We get some DNF's from time to time. The caches usually don't stay gone for too long because we try to get out and replace them as needed. We don’t mind cachers replacing logs. It is a huge undertaking to maintain 100+ caches. We ask cachers to please help us maintain this trail. This helps everyone out, and hopefully makes your cache run a 100% success. Use the links below to make some logs for them. That way you can replace any logs that might have been filled up or mutilated. This helps everyone!

Log Sheet: 2.5 inch log sheet. All 3 columns go into the cache containers. Just trim the outside off.
