Twin Coast Cycle Trail Series.
This cache commemorates the opening of Pou Herenga Tai - the Twin Coast Cycle Trail. Stage 1 between Okaihau and Kaikohe.
The plan is to open a full 84km route from Opua, in the Bay of Islands, to Horeke in the Hokianga.
The trail construction has been divided into four stages.
The first 14km section has been completed on the old rail corridor between Kaikohe and Okaihau.
The plan is to then run for 34km from Kaikohe to Kawakawa, 25km from Okaihau to Horeke and a further 11km from Kawakawa to Opua.
The cache is located close to the old Kaikohe rail tunnel, of interest due to its curved alignment.
Container contains log book, pencil and some things to swap. It's big enough for trackables too.
Access by cycle / foot. You may need a torch! Length of ride / hike is just over 10km if you start at Okaihau or under 5km from Kaikohe. Enjoy!
