Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden on a "Pressure Frame" of the old aerial ropeway between Bulembu and Barberton.

You'll see that the pressure frame is a much sturdier structure than the other spindly-looking pylons. This short and stocky double structure was specifically designed to deal with the very high downward pressures that are caused by the ropeway going over the top of a mountain ridge.

The aerial ropeway used to convey asbestos ore between Havelock Mine in Swaziland and Barberton Railway Station in South Africa. It was completed in October 1938, and at that time, it was the longest aerial ropeway in the world, and the only one to cross an international border.

Length 20,36 km
Speed: 183 m per minute (11 Kph)
Load per car: 200 kg
Hourly capacity: 13,5 metric tons
Supporting pylons: 52
Longest unsupported span: 1207m
Highest point above ground: 189m

Seeing the ropeway in action was a common sight for Lowvelders until 2001 when the mine closed. All the cargo gondolas were then removed from the ropeway, and it has since deteriorated and rusted to an extent that it will probably never work again - sad.....

The cache is a small magnetic bison tube.
