Geocache Description:

Wanna see the insides of an old volcano? This cache is an easy Park & Grab beside the Doyleville Cutoff Road (Co Rd 45/Co Rd 14PP). The Doyleville Cutoff Road is a well-graded, gravel shortcut between HWY 50 at Doyleville and the Cochetopa Canyon Road (Hwy 114). Look for a pullout big enough to park a semi. Take a short walk to the cache. Elevation at the cache: 8600'

Prosser Rock is a "volcanic neck" or "rhyolite plug", which is the remnant of an extinct volcano. The lava in the throat of the volcano cooled into rock (rhyolite) over time, and the softer outside of the volcano eroded away, exposing the throat. The result is a magnificent sight to behold.

If you are interested in getting "up close and personal" with Prosser Rock, there is a public road about 1/2 mile east of the cache (which requires a high-clearance vehicle) that will take you around the west side of the Rock, and gives you a view of three smaller plugs to the south.

Cache is in a glass jar with a black lid.
