Joy's Wood or is it Bog? Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

AirEd: I liked the puzzle but was never too happy with the hide. As most of the others are getting achieved this one is joining them . Cache would have been really hard to find if you did not know exactly where it was as the undergrowth has hidden the clue item. Box was full of bog water but the log was nice and dry and blank as it has not been found since I last replaced it.
Thanks to all who found it and logged it.

The Ents’ revenge. Joy's Wood or Is It Bog? Series Information

There are plans for 7 caches and 1 bonus in the series. Some are simple some equire a little climbing and some require a little hunting for clues in the area.

Suitable footware may be required depending on what the weather has been like. Muggle presence is variable sometimes deserted but evidence of nocturnal activity in places.

JRR Tolkien spent some of his early life living in a house on the SE of the area so some of the caches have taken inspiration from some of his stories.

Moseley Bog and Joys Wood

Moseley Bog and Joy's Wood lie approximately 3 miles south of Birmingham City Centre, situated between Sparkhill and Billesley,Hall Green and Moseley or between Yardley Wood Road and Wake Green Road

Access points are situated at various points along the Yardley Wood Road or the playing fields to the North. There is also an entrance at the end of Pensby Close. There is parking off Windermere Road (Gates locked at Dusk)

There are bus stops close to the area Route Nos 11, 2,5

The area known as Moseley Bog is made up of both wet and dry woodland together with patches of fen vegetation which has developed on the site of an old millpond. There is also an area of secondary woodland, which has developed on the old gardens along the eastern boundary

Joy's Wood, (formerly known as The Dell), is a mosaic of grassland, hedgerows, woodland and mixed broadleaved plantations. Adjoining Joy's Wood to the North, lies an area of public open space and sports pitches.

This is a gem of an area hidden from view. It has recently had a lot of work carried out making some of the areas much more accessible. You can never be sure what you will find hiding round a corner. As dusk falls the feel of the woods change and you can sense an ancient presence.

Some parts of the area appear as if the forest is reclaiming what had once been developed.

Thanks to the ranger for the permission to place caches in the area.

Where there are broad walk oak paths please stick to the paths. The newer paths are accessible to buggies and wheelchairs but there are steps and narrow paths in areas so unless specifically stated the caches are not accessible to wheel chairs, all terrain buggies can get round but may be tricky. Any caches near these paths will not require you leaving the wooden paths.
